Overview
Economic elements of transportation Plan update for Northwest Alaska
Project Lead: Mike Fisher
Northern Economics was part of a team updating the Northwest Alaska Transportation Plan, which considers regional transportation needs such as movements between communities both within and outside of the study area. Northern Economics’ role was to develop the economic and population forecasts, using the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s demographics-based population projections as a basis for the projections and conducting research and industry interviews to develop scenarios for economic activities that could affect the region’s population. As an additional task, Northern Economics also prepared a chapter on private funding mechanisms for mining, oil and gas, and other industry projects the region might experience.
