Overview
Detailed survey in support of housing needs assessment.
Project Lead: Melissa Errend, Mike Fisher
The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) contracted with Northern Economics to determine Sitka housing availability and ultimately their need for housing in anticipation of the Mount Edgecumbe Hospital expansion. Northern Economics designed a housing survey to assess current employee needs and preferences and gathered publicly available data on the Sitka housing market trends. The team then used the collected data to perform a detailed gap analysis to evaluate the number of housing units available in the region by type and cost. The team ultimately determined how much and what type of housing SEARHC will be required to build for incoming health care workers. Northern Economics also developed a substantial assessment of staff housing preferences that can be used for future endeavors.
