Visitor market analysis for the community of St. Paul Island, AK
Project Lead: Mike Fisher
Northern Economics, Inc. worked as a subcontractor to Agnew::Beck to support a visitor market analysis for the Aleut Community of St. Paul Island. The island is home to a rich variety of marine life and more than 200 species of birds, which have historically supported a niche tourism industry based on bird watchers. Much of the economic focus of the study was on evaluating the potential for renovating the existing hotel or potentially constructing a new hotel to improve the island’s visitor capacity and revenue potential. Northern Economics used data on hotel capacity, bookings, and executed tour packages to estimate the total economic impact to the community from the visitor industry. The analysis was included in a chapter of the final document prepared by Agnew::Beck.
