Overview
Benefit-Cost Analysis of proposed renewable energy projects
Project Lead: Mike Fisher, Leah Cuyno, Melissa Errend
Over a series of thirteen contracts, beginning in October 2008, Northern Economics has assisted the Alaska Energy Authority in its ongoing annual program evaluating the economic viability of renewable energy projects submitted for funding consideration in response to the Authority’s Alaska Alternative Energy Projects RFP. Northern Economics has evaluated approximately 275 of these projects. The evaluations included calculating the proposed projects’ life-cycle benefit-cost ratio based on the applicants’ benefit and cost estimates, as well as an independent assessment of each project and a revised benefit-cost ratio. As the sole reviewer for rounds 14 and 15, Northern Economics reviewed applications covering biomass, geothermal, heat recovery, hydro, hydrokinetic, solar, storage, and wind energy projects.
